PARIS
JUNE 12 - JULY 30, 2021
The parisian space of Fondation H presents Démêle, Discipline et Nourrit Intensément, an exhibition by artist M'barka Amor, from June 12 to July 30, 2021. Born in 1971 in Lyon, the artist sets out an installation giving the ground floor exhibition its title, the performance staged by M’barka Amorat the opening of the exhibition Passe-moiles clés [Hand Me The Keys], as well as the video Now I'm White, shown in the basement.
Displaying objects patiently created and tangled in the artist's studio in 2021, the installation Démêle, Discipline et Nourrit Intensément brings together drawings-collages (Fétiche ChapeauBleu and Fétiche Chien Oublié series), embroideries and linocuts on doilies (Surface / Support series), collaborative rosaries shaped in natural clay (BlancChapelet series), items in natural clay (Les Articulations series), as well as container-receptacles made of earth and natural clay, also collaborative (J’attends series).
The performance presented by M'barka Amor for this exhibition embodies and inhabits these objects like a rite of passage from one state to another: once her skin is white, the artist claims a new societal status. With much humor and a keen sense of staging, the artist chants “Hand me the keys, by activating the installation.”
In the video Now I'm White, produced in2020 and presented for the first time in Paris, the artist shows her naked body on stage, against the rhythmic, haunting chanting of White Poem by M'barka Amor, as she is made invisible and disappears.
