CELLULES HUMAINES, C'EST LUI L'HUMAIN
[HUMAN CELLS, HE IS THE HUMAN]

ANTANANARIVO
NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 23, 2023

Fondation H – Antananarivo are delighted to host Cellules humaines, c’est lui l’humain, an immersive installation by Olivia Bourgois, vice-winner of the 2022 Prix Paritana, a Fondation H program. Since its creation in 2017, this contemporary art prize has been supporting the Malagasy art scene, and is awarded annually to three artists who are either citizens or residents of Madagascar. As a result, Olivia Bourgois received personalized support from the Fondation H team, as well as a production grant to set up her exhibition.

Olivia Bourgois creates an immersive universe, she reinvents the world in her own way, calling out mankind. She puts it at the heart of a reflection on its presence and impact on earth. The public is led into a garden, where a single, already fragile, tree is still standing. By raising their awareness of the time andspace they are travelling through, the artist awakens their sensitivity through a multi-sensory experience.

Olivia Bourgois delves into many different techniques in order to sublimate our accumulation of waste in a world on the brink of environmental disaster. From papier-mâché to assembly, to collage, macramé, welding, and painting, which brings it all to life. These polysemic mediums of expression emphasize the fragile balance of our environment. The artist engages in a genuine reflection on materials and their role in our lives, in order to transform them in her work.
