CMYK

ANTANANARIVO
NOVEMBER 11 - 26, 2021

As part of the 2021 Prix Paritana, one of our programs aimed at supporting the Malagasy contemporary art scene, Fondation H are delighted to present CMYK, first solo exhibition by artist Ms. V, vice-winner of the prize.

CMYK is an English acronym used in printing processes, referring to a four-color model: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key (for black). For Ms.V, it hints both to the four-color process of her works and to the words Choices – Motherhood – Youth – Knowledge, ideas that are close to her heart.

Her exhibition showcases a series of nine digital works printed on canvas. Inspired by the artist's experience, each work shows a specific life stage, a moment that can be ordinary, tormented, delightful or unhappy. As a whole, the series represents Ms.V’s four seasons.

In this exhibition, Ms.V combines colonial post cards from archives with an intensely colorful pop art universe. To bring her imagination to life, the artist carefully selected her subjects online before processing them with various digital techniques of colorization and collage.

BIOGRAPHY OF MS.V

Born in 1982, Ms. V lives and works in Antananarivo, Madagascar. She has flourished in her practice of digital art. Introduced to photography as a child, she gradually broadened her horizons by developing a passion and an appetite for all forms of art. During the first waves of pandemic-related lockdowns, Ms. V began to practice digital art. Her works are imbued with pop art style,  highlighting different aspects of femininity through various women’s profiles. Ms. V deems her artistic approach salutary, a therapy instilling her with the will to assert herself as a woman, a sister, a mother and an artist, while honoring all Malagasy women.
