MYRIAM OMAR AWADI
LES FEUX QUE VOS DERNIERS SOUFFLES RAVIVENT [THE FIRES REKINDLED BY YOUR LAST BREATHS]

ANTANANARIVO
JANUARY 01 - APRIL 27, 2022

For this project, Myriam Omar Awadi has been  creating a body of work focused on orality and memories around the Indian Ocean. Using various media (video, sculpture, photography, installation), she explores the female oral traditions of Madagascar in the style of Comorian Debe, an ancient ceremony conducted exclusively by women. By approaching archives as a living material, Myriam Omar Awadi establishes a dialogue between voices from the past (archive documents), present (discussions and collaborations with groups of young women) and future (aspirations developed by this matrimonial heritage) in order to foster transmission of personal and collective stories.
