SÃO PAULO
SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 - JANUARY 11, 2026
As part of the official opening of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo on September 6, 2025, Fondation H has been invited to take part of Conjugations. On this occasion, Fondation H will present a conversation entitled Textile as Resistance: Rituals and Protests in theIndian Ocean, bringing together Hobisoa Raininoro (Curator, Fondation H), Myriam Omar Awadi (Artist), and Sumesh Sharma (Curator). This discussion will highlight the significance of traditional textiles in the islands of the Indian Ocean: as bearers of histories, identities, and rituals, these fabrics today occupy a central place in contemporary creation and in the cultural, social, political, and identity reflections of our territories.
In addition to this programme, Fondation H is delighted to loan works from the Fondation H Collection of celebrated Malagasy artist Madame Zo (1956-2020) to the biennal. Madame Zo is widely represented in the Fondation H Collection and has benefited from a solo exhibition in the Fondation H space in Antananarivo, Madagascar, in 2023, curated by Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung and Bérénice Saliou, with a public programme curated by Alya Sebti and Hobisoa Raininoro. Fondation H is also delithed that Richianny Ratovo, winner of the 5th edition of Prix Paritana, a programme initiated by Fondation H, will be exhibited at the biennal.
In the lead-up to the biennal, Fondation H has supported Invocation, a programme of performances and discussions dedicated to Taarab music, held in Zanzibar (Tanzania) from February 11 to 13, 2025, and coordinated by the bienal, further strengthening its ties with cultural actors in the Indian Ocean region.
Through this partnership with the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, Fondation H reaffirms its mission to support and give visibility to contemporary creation from the Indian Ocean on the international stage.
